Our History

Big Brown Church History

It’s really about a coming together community. The Community church was formed in 1940 by two churches, Methodist and Presbyterian. They chose to become a new church focused on bringing people together, on helping each individual build their own faith in God, and on allowing each person to bring their questions and needs to the church.

The building was built in 1942 and the Sunday School wing was built in the early 1960′s. 1962 brought membership in the United Church of Christ. We treasure that denomination’s emphasis on allowing each church to make their choice about how to worship God, how to live out the life God wants us to, and how to read the Bible.

We believe strongly in reaching out. Over the years, our building has been home to the Girl Scout troupes, community youth groups and gatherings, self-help groups such as Weight Watchers, AA and NA, nursery schools, and many other community organizations.

We are proud to be a voice of faith in the community and would enjoy including yours in our ongoing community.
